MANILA—The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has ordered local government units (LGUs) to complete the mandatory evacuation of residents in high-risk communities by Sunday, ahead of the expected landfall of severe tropical storm Fung-Wong, which the weather bureau will name “Uwan” once it enters the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR).
The interior department specifically instructed LGU officials not to wait for weather conditions to worsen before moving residents from areas prone to flooding and landslides.
